About the Program
FlySafair is seeking an experienced aviation professional to join the team as Manager: Base Airports. This role is responsible for overseeing airport base operations, ensuring service excellence, operational efficiency, and compliance with all aviation regulations while maintaining strong relationships with service providers and stakeholders.
Job Description
- Manage and approve purchases and invoices related to Passenger Services, Crew, and Technical operations.
- Oversee and control costs associated with delays and missed flight connections.
- Prepare and motivate for additional service contracts related to operational purchasing needs.
- Implement and monitor cost-saving initiatives across base airport operations.
- Manage relationships with external service providers and ensure service delivery aligns with company standards.
- Address matters of common operational interest and maintain effective stakeholder coordination.
- Ensure strict adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including air and ground safety regulations and labour laws.
- Drive operational efficiency to achieve punctuality targets and strong on-time performance results.
- Ensure emergency response plans are implemented and maintained for each assigned station.
- Plan, organise, and motivate for additional resources when operational demands require it.
- Coordinate delay management and personally attend airport operations in severe situations when necessary.
- Conduct and coordinate regular audits to ensure service delivery and safety standards remain at the highest level.
- Ensure passengers experience smooth, efficient, and positive airport services.
- Promote customer service performance indicators and support Net Promoter Score improvement initiatives.
- Ensure external service providers maintain customer service standards aligned with FlySafair expectations.
- Provide leadership and direction to supervisors and operational staff.
- Maintain effective communication channels among teams and departments.
- Ensure staff receive appropriate training and possess the necessary operational skills.
- Manage staff performance and address unresolved queries or operational issues.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet operational demands.
- Initiate and manage recruitment processes in collaboration with the Human Resources division.
- Oversee staff scheduling and operational activities.
- Enforce housekeeping and operational discipline across airport facilities.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s code of conduct.
- Represent Safair Operations at various airport committees through third-party service providers, including the Airline Operators Committee (AOC).
- Represent Safair Operations at Local Baggage and Pilferage Committees.
- Represent Safair Operations at Local Airport Security and Safety Committees.
- Represent Safair Operations at Local Bird and Wildlife Committees.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential).
- Diploma or Degree in Travel and Tourism or Aviation (Advantageous).
- Minimum of 10 years’ aviation industry experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
- Experience in baggage handling, passenger handling operations, and cargo handling.
- Experience in non-scheduled aviation operations.
- Knowledge and experience with commercial ground handling agreements.
- Familiarity with IOSA and ISAGO audit standards and requirements.
