Job Overview
The R&D Senior Process Engineer is responsible for driving process engineering and optimization initiatives within R&D, with a strong focus on Design to Value (DtV) and product sustainability. This role collaborates with global and regional teams to deliver innovative, consumer-centric, and scientifically sound solutions while ensuring technical and commercial excellence throughout product development and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
Process Engineering and Innovation
- Lead formula design, lab and factory trials, process design, nutritional assessments, shelf-life studies, sensory evaluations, and other technical validations.
- Drive process optimization initiatives from an R&D perspective, ensuring alignment with DtV and product sustainability goals.
- Manage and supervise WIL students to support innovation development, including collaboration with Packaging teams on shelf-life validations.
- Train and develop WIL students to maintain product specifications and drive the qualification of new or alternative raw materials in collaboration with GP, BC, and SQA.
Project Management and Collaboration
- Provide weekly and monthly updates in project team meetings to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Lead and manage the Technical stage gate process, ensuring cross-functional engagement from Marketing, Operations, and R&D teams to meet commercialization deadlines.
- Collaborate with R&D Functional teams, Supply Chain, and business capability teams to develop food-safe, profitable, and consumer-focused recipes.
- Manage the sustainability budget, including spend tracking and purchase order approvals, communicating updates to the global sustainability budget owner.
Technical Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Apply technical expertise to support innovation, process optimization, and continuous improvement of products and processes.
- Explain complex technical concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders to drive alignment and decision-making.
- Ensure disciplined documentation and record-keeping to maintain R&D standards and compliance.
- Promote a culture of creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement within a commercially driven environment.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, or Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in R&D or related technical functions, with strong knowledge of R&D methodologies, tools, and vision.
- Excellent communication, planning, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Strong technical and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Ability to operate effectively in complex, ambiguous, and dynamic environments.
- Adaptable to change with cultural sensitivity and flexibility in diverse teams.
- Passion for innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to drive results independently while fostering collaboration.
