Job Description
The Production Planner at FlySafair Careers is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring aircraft maintenance activities to ensure efficient hangar operations and on-time maintenance delivery. This role works closely with multiple departments to optimise production schedules, resource availability, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimate maintenance downtime for scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance checks
- Coordinate with Production Control to facilitate post-mortem meetings aimed at continuous process improvement
- Collaborate with Materials Planning to ensure required spares are available prior to maintenance check inputs
- Work with Maintenance Planners to verify work packages and resolve anomalies before check commencement
- Facilitate survey pre-check meetings to align all departments on upcoming maintenance requirements
- Coordinate long-term hangar and maintenance planning activities with Maintenance Planning teams
- Develop, maintain, and update Gantt charts and production schedules for maintenance events and modification projects
- Liaise with maintenance, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to ensure availability of labour, parts, and documentation
- Review work packages and engineering documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance
- Ensure work orders are compiled timeously and issued to MROs
- Monitor maintenance progress within heavy maintenance hangars and adjust schedules to mitigate delays and resource constraints
- Support Maintenance Planning by following up on open tasks and outstanding work orders
- Track parts shortages, support procurement escalation, and address supply chain risks proactively
- Generate production reports and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders
- Participate in production meetings and communicate planning milestones
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and planning systems
- Coordinate post-maintenance review meetings to identify improvements and address shortfalls
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company standards
- Report non-compliance and implement corrective actions
- Analyse stakeholder requirements and identify opportunities for operational improvement
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate with Maintenance Planning on aircraft downtime and scheduling requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (essential)
- Minimum of five years’ experience in aircraft planning, production control, or aircraft maintenance (essential)
- Knowledge of aircraft maintenance documentation, including MPD and OEM or Boeing documentation (essential)
- Working knowledge of aviation regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Willingness to work overtime as operationally required
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience
- Technical Diploma
- Aviation technical trade qualification
- Qualification in project planning and project management
- Experience in project planning and management
- Exposure to technical maintenance systems or MRO software
