Purpose of the Job
Value Logistics is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to conduct all maintenance and repair work on commercial vehicles in accordance with Value job cards. The role ensures vehicles are serviced, repaired, and returned to optimal working condition while maintaining safety, professional conduct, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-assessment
- Review workshop job cards for accuracy and full understanding of required tasks
- Ensure adherence to flat rates on repairs
- Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours
- Sign off completed job cards
- Ensure all parts used, including engine oils, are correctly booked to the job card
- Prepare operating equipment and necessary parts for service bays
- Perform maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer specifications and the maintenance schedule/computer
- Carry out visual inspections, calibration work, and adjustments
- Identify deviations, unusual wear, or irregularities and communicate findings to the Workshop Foreman
- Reset maintenance systems as per internal procedures
- Inspect dismantled parts, replace with new or reconditioned parts, and return unusable parts to suppliers
- Compare vehicle condition with standard production configurations to evaluate technical condition
- Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure repairs are complete, roadworthy, and reliable
- Maintain professional conduct and adhere to dress code and company SOPs
- Support relevant operational functions as required
- Maintain daily housekeeping and uphold health and safety standards
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician
Skills Required
- Ability to use appropriate techniques to maintain a professional and safe work area
- Ability to make basic inferences from customer usage patterns
- Apply business principles relevant to the work environment
- Directly handle customer interactions related to work area responsibilities
- Implement business principles and operational procedures effectively
- Identify hazards and follow instructions to handle them safely
- Apply basic health and safety procedures under supervision
