About the Role
Value Logistics is seeking a skilled and qualified Diesel Mechanic to perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on commercial vehicles in line with approved job cards and manufacturer specifications. This role is responsible for ensuring vehicles are serviced efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards to maintain fleet reliability and roadworthiness.
The Diesel Mechanic will support workshop operations, attend to breakdowns, and uphold company standards related to safety, housekeeping, and professional conduct.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection & Diagnostics
- Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-diagnosis assessments
- Review workshop job cards to ensure accuracy and full understanding of required work
- Identify deviations, irregularities, or abnormal wear and report findings to the Workshop Foreman
- Compare vehicle condition to standard production configurations and evaluate technical performance
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules
- Adhere to prescribed flat rates on repairs
- Conduct all visual inspections, calibration work, and necessary adjustments
- Reset maintenance systems in line with internal procedures
- Attend to office-hour and after-hours breakdowns as required
- Complete and sign off job cards accurately
Parts & Equipment Management
- Ensure all parts used are correctly allocated and booked to the relevant job card
- Prepare operating equipment and required parts for service bay tasks
- Inspect dismantled parts and replace with new or reconditioned components where applicable
- Reset dismantled parts and arrange return to suppliers if eligible for reconditioning
- Return unusable parts and document all completed work accurately
Quality Control & Compliance
- Perform final inspections using testing and measuring equipment to ensure vehicles are fully repaired, roadworthy, and functionally reliable
- Maintain professional conduct at all times
- Assist with operational functions as required
- Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures
- Maintain daily housekeeping standards within the workshop
- Ensure strict compliance with Health and Safety regulations
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Trade tested commercial vehicle Diesel Technician qualification
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to apply appropriate techniques to maintain a positive and professional work environment
- Understanding of customer usage patterns and their impact on vehicle maintenance
- Ability to apply relevant business principles within the workshop environment
- Capability to engage directly with customers regarding work performed
- Ability to identify and manage workplace hazards under guided supervision
- Sound knowledge of basic Health and Safety procedures related to mechanical operations
