Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
About the Role
Value Logistics is seeking a hands-on and safety-focused Tyre Maintenance Controller to support fleet operations by conducting routine tyre maintenance, breakdown assistance, and tyre surveys across various sites. This role ensures optimal tyre performance, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with company standards to maintain fleet safety and efficiency.
The Tyre Maintenance Controller will be responsible for maintaining tyre stock control, conducting inspections, performing replacements and rotations, and responding to breakdowns in a timely and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Ensure tyre stock is secured and locked at all times
- Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting
- Support monthly cycle counts
Tyre Surveys & Inspections
- Travel to designated sites as required
- Prioritise tyre surveys and maintenance according to the fleet list provided by the supervisor
- Conduct daily tyre surveys using tyre management software, with manual documentation when systems are offline
- Accurately capture brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressures, and tread depth readings
- Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly and tyre pressures corrected
- Report missing spare wheels to the supervisor
- Spray spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification
- Ensure wheel nuts are torqued correctly and wheel nut indicators are fitted
- Install missing wheel nut indicators
- Photograph scrap tyres and submit evidence to the supervisor
- Communicate daily with the supervisor regarding vehicles surveyed, tyre issues identified, outstanding surveys, and productivity levels
Tyre Branding
- Identify tyres without brand numbers and report accordingly
- Brand tyres as per the approved listing
Tyre Replacement & Rotations
- Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres according to SOP
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and submit daily
- Perform tyre rotations based on tread matching guidelines
- Ensure all related documentation is submitted promptly
Breakdown Support
- Ensure the breakdown vehicle is stocked with the correct tyre sizes and quantities
- Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns
- Prioritise breakdowns while adhering to driving regulations
- Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation
- Return damaged tyres to the depot and hand over with completed paperwork
Company Equipment & Asset Care
- Secure tyre maintenance tablets and company equipment after each shift
- Complete and submit daily vehicle checklists
- Ensure vehicles are parked, locked, and keys handed to the supervisor after each shift
- Report accidents or vehicle damages immediately
- Maintain all tools and equipment in good working condition
- Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists
- Report defective tools to the supervisor
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area and company vehicle at all times
Health & Safety Compliance
- Comply with all safety rules and regulations, particularly when handling hazardous materials
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Report health and safety risks or near misses immediately
General Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company procedures and policies, including SOPs, HR policies, POPIA policies, dress code, attendance, and workplace conduct
- Assist with additional company requirements as needed
- Be available for occasional weekend work
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
