Value Vacancies – Workshop Manager

Workshop Manager – Purpose of the Role

The Workshop Manager is responsible for maximising service delivery, sales performance, and profitability by driving high levels of productivity, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction across workshop operations.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Manage staff attendance, productivity, and overall efficiency
  • Supervise, coach, and motivate teams to deliver a customer-focused service environment
  • Ensure compliance with dress code and PPE requirements
  • Identify training and development needs and implement improvement plans
  • Conduct performance reviews, appraisals, and feedback sessions
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and performance discussions

Workshop Operations, Capacity Planning and WIP

  • Perform daily work-in-progress planning and control
  • Monitor and optimise workshop productivity and efficiency
  • Liaise daily with Service Advisors and the Parts Department to ensure parts availability
  • Ensure all vehicles are serviced in line with OEM service schedules and standards
  • Ensure effective utilisation of workshop resources and smooth operational flow

Customer Service

  • Ensure internal and external customers are consistently updated on vehicle progress
  • Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally

Workshop Administration

  • Ensure accurate data capture on Embrace, including hour readings, job timelines, fault codes, and job types
  • Ensure compliance with all administrative SOPs
  • Manage accurate costing, closing, and sign-off of job cards
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is correctly attached to job cards, both manually and electronically
  • Ensure timely submission of job cards to the filing department in line with schedules
  • Obtain, process, and manage quotations for outsourced and outwork services
  • Ensure recovery billing is accurately recorded and invoiced to external customers

Reporting

  • Review open job card reports daily and investigate non-WIP items
  • Report WIP status and operational risks to management
  • Review open purchase order reports daily and investigate outstanding items
  • Submit all required management reports within agreed timelines

Asset Management

  • Manage, maintain, and safeguard all workshop assets
  • Report asset losses or damage in line with company procedures
  • Ensure asset disposal requests comply with SOPs and approval authorities

Recoveries and Warranty

  • Ensure correct recovery and warranty claim processes are followed

Financial Management

  • Manage workshop operations in a cost-effective manner aligned with approved budgets
  • Provide input and reporting on profit and loss performance as required

Quality Standards

  • Ensure availability of appropriate tools and equipment
  • Conduct regular spot checks to maintain service and quality standards

Apprentice Programme

  • Manage and oversee the apprentice programme across all workshops nationally

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Support operational functions as required
  • Ensure adherence to dress code and housekeeping standards
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety compliance

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in Workshop or Field Service Management
  • Diesel Mechanic qualification is advantageous
