Introduction
SPAR North Rand, a division of The SPAR Group Ltd, is recruiting for a Category Controller at its Distribution Centre in Olifantsfontein.
Purpose of the Role
The Category Controller provides administrative and operational support to the Purchasing Manager and Category Manager. The role focuses on reporting, basic replenishment buying, system data integrity, stock control, supplier coordination, and ensuring accurate, up-to-date day-to-day administration.
Key Performance Areas
Support to the Category Manager
- Maintain accurate product listings on AS400, including vendor packs and new product set-ups
- Ensure system data integrity, including correct pricing, quantities, and product details
- Monitor out-of-stocks and discontinued lines daily and action removals as per supplier guidance
- Track stock levels and stock age daily to prevent slow-moving and expired stock
- Capture added demand items and manage ADHOC SKUs
- Identify and sell overstocked items to retailers
- Process returns in line with approved procedures and return non-performing stock
Supplier and Order Management
- Follow up on supplier orders and confirm delivery slot bookings with Receiving
- Verify promotional quantities received from the promotions department
- Ensure supplier invoices align with system pricing and resolve discrepancies
Reporting and Marketing Administration
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly, and annual marketing and category reports
- Coordinate departmental meetings, including venue bookings and catering
- Manage marketing communication with retailers and suppliers
- Support marketing initiatives and assist at SPAR events such as trade shows, golf days, public events, and roadshows
Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Matric with Higher Grade Mathematics
- Marketing Degree or Diploma, or Purchasing Diploma
- High level of numeracy with strong administrative capability
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Previous creditors experience advantageous
- Knowledge of the SPAR Creditors system advantageous
- Receiving experience advantageous
