Introduction
Clicks Group is seeking a permanent Senior Category Manager (Front Shop) to join United Pharmaceutical Distributors (UPD) at the Lea Glen, Roodepoort branch. Reporting to the Demand and Supply Planning Manager, this role will drive category strategy, innovation, and financial performance while mentoring team members.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Purpose:
Develop and execute category strategies to exceed financial targets by enhancing category depth, optimizing pricing, driving private label and exclusive brands, and creating product differentiation to grow market share and profitability. Provide leadership through mentoring and coaching.

Key Objectives:

  • Develop and implement category plans for specific product ranges to optimize costs, contract terms, and revenue.
  • Manage Link Broadsheets monthly and ensure accurate category reporting.
  • Negotiate favorable trading terms and promotional spend, cultivating strong vendor relationships to ensure first-to-market product launches.
  • Maintain and expand supplier relationships, sourcing new suppliers for future product lines.
  • Implement strategies aligned with the Clicks Group value proposition through pricing, promotions, and achieving promotional sales targets.
  • Translate operating and financial plans into balanced product assortments and visually appealing on-shelf displays to meet customer needs.
  • Support sourcing and development of private label and exclusive brands to drive product differentiation, innovation, brand loyalty, and profitability.
  • Monitor performance indicators such as sales, margin, and promotion metrics, keeping leadership informed of financial performance versus market trends.
  • Conduct range reviews, analyze consumer buying patterns, predict trends, and stay informed of competitor activity.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including marketing and Clubcard, to ensure successful execution of the operating plan.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Retail, Purchasing Management, or related field (Essential)

Experience:

  • 4–6 years in Category Management
  • 2–3 years in People Management
  • Experience managing objectives and working with local and global supplier networks
