Human Rights Ambassador – Anova Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Human Rights Ambassador educates and empowers young women on their legal rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, protection from discrimination, violence, and sexual exploitation. The role strengthens client referrals to social grants, medico-legal post-violence care, and GBV services. The Ambassador supports human rights advocacy and campaigns alongside civil society, and promotes healthy behaviours while preventing risk behaviours among adolescents through targeted interventions at individual, facility, and community levels. This includes enhancing uptake of HIV testing, linkage to and retention in treatment, and access to prevention services such as PrEP and sexual and reproductive health services.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

  • Identify and create platforms for community education on human rights, including community organisations, recreational spaces, learning centres, and youth gathering points.
  • Map locations where adolescents and young women congregate and identify opportunities to promote human rights education.
  • Deliver age-appropriate, adolescent-centred health talks using IEC materials in facilities and communities.
  • Promote B-wise registration and usage, and educate adolescents on health-related rights around HTS, AYFS, SRH, and PrEP.

  • Strengthen referrals to social grants, medico-legal post-violence care, and GBV services.
  • Create awareness of CBO service packages and facilitate referral pathways.
  • Promote HIV testing, linkage to care, and support adolescents throughout the care process.
  • Follow up to ensure attendance at scheduled appointments.
  • Recruit and maintain clients in Youth Care Clubs (YCCs) and support groups.

Retention in Care and Adherence Support

  • Create safe spaces for adolescents to discuss social and health-related issues.
  • Support disclosure and adherence counselling; refer adolescents with poor adherence or unsuppressed viral loads for additional support.
  • Recruit HIV-positive adolescents and youth into YCCs and adult services.
  • Organise and facilitate Youth Care Club activities.

Health Facility Engagement

  • Participate in multidisciplinary facility teams to ensure programme targets are met.
  • Represent adolescents in clinic health committees and forums.
  • Develop adolescent-friendly forums to capture youth opinions, concerns, and expectations.

  • Serve as a liaison between adolescents, local clinics, CBOs, and other community health services.
  • Establish and strengthen links with schools and engage in outreach programmes.
  • Represent ANOVA Health Institute at youth gatherings and platforms.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed Grade 12.
  • Local youth aged 19–35 years.
  • Currently unemployed and not enrolled in formal education.
  • Experience in public speaking and previous leadership roles is advantageous.
  • Experience working with adolescents in facilities, community settings, or schools.
  • Former LoveLife GroundBreaker experience is an advantage.
