Clinical Manager – Anova Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Clinical Manager ensures the delivery of integrated, high-quality health services informed by regular needs assessments. The role oversees HIV testing and self-screening, PrEP, ART initiation and viral load monitoring, TB and STI screening and treatment, sexual and reproductive health services, prevention of vertical transmission, post-violence care, and HPV screening. The Clinical Manager strengthens linkages to care, manages continuity of treatment, promotes adherence and completion, and drives continuous quality improvement in line with NACOSA, NDoH, and Global Fund standards.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead district implementation of AGYW/AYP biomedical interventions.
  • Provide direct line management to the biomedical clinical field team.
  • Participate in recruitment and onboarding of biomedical staff.
  • Identify training needs across staff categories and support professional development.
  • Lead by example and promote a culture of ethical, competent, and client-centred practice.
  • Facilitate monthly and ad hoc staff meetings and participate in relevant organisational forums.
  • Conduct onsite supervision and complete supervisory tools.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports to the Programme Manager.
  • Appoint and support portfolio champions such as HTS and Quality Assurance leads.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance reviews with biomedical staff.
  • Monitor monthly timesheets and ensure HR protocol compliance in collaboration with Human Resources.

Strategic Alignment and Compliance

  • Implement AGYW/AYP programmes in alignment with NACOSA and Global Fund strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, legislation, and organisational SOPs.
  • Report unsafe practices to senior management and Human Resources.
  • Implement and uphold NDoH and NACOSA clinical guidelines and standards.

Mentoring and Technical Leadership

  • Support implementation of case management tools and NIMART across services.
  • Review weekly reporting tools and provide feedback in collaboration with M&E teams.
  • Guide and mentor nurses in clinical practice and beneficiary management.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary complex case discussions as required.
  • Lead operational planning and oversee service delivery indicators and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support Nurse Mentors in training and mentoring activities.
  • Maintain records of activities and ensure access to guidelines, SOPs, and mentoring tools for all biomedical staff.

Quality Assurance and Clinical Governance

  • Stay current with clinical developments, guidelines, and best practices through ongoing learning.
  • Set quality objectives and oversee interventions to improve service delivery.
  • Ensure medical equipment is functional and properly maintained.
  • Enforce infection prevention and control standards.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance programmes across services.
  • Ensure bi-annual clinical staff assessments are conducted and documented.
  • Oversee continuous quality improvement for HIV rapid diagnostic testing, including IQC and proficiency testing.
  • Participate in baseline, midterm, and exit clinical compliance assessments.
  • Conduct monthly clinical record audits across key indicators.
  • Oversee complaints, compliments, and client satisfaction processes in line with SOPs.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing (General, Midwifery, Community, or Psychiatric Nursing).
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council.
  • NIMART and SRH training.
  • Primary Health Care clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a Primary Health Care setting.
  • At least two years’ management experience.
  • Proven facilitation and capacity-building experience.
  • Extensive experience in HIV, STI, and TB treatment and care.
  • Minimum of two years’ community nursing experience.
  • Experience working with AGYW/AYP is an advantage.
