Main Purpose of the Role
The Community Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth, effective day-to-day implementation of community-based activities. The role provides operational oversight within assigned communities, tracks performance against targets, and ensures accurate routine reporting in collaboration with the Programme Manager.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Outreach Supervision
- Deliver a comprehensive package of services to AGYW, their partners, and stakeholders through coordinated micro-planning with Health and Wellness Counsellors and Peer Educators.
- Coordinate interventionists to ensure full coverage across all designated community sites.
- Conduct regular service mapping to identify coverage gaps and strengthen service delivery.
- Ensure community safe spaces provide consistent access to the My Journey Programme service package.
- Facilitate regular team meetings with interventionists to review progress, resolve challenges, and strengthen programme implementation.
- Monitor interventionist performance, ensuring quality, confidentiality, and commitment to standards.
- Provide direct supervision to Peer Educators and community staff implementing programme activities.
- Escalate performance and operational challenges to the Programme Manager with proposed solutions.
- Collaborate with Peer Educators, Health and Wellness Counsellors, and Linkage Officers to strengthen referrals and follow-up.
- Support mobilisation of AGYW for services, dignity packs, and hygiene packs, including identification of eligible beneficiaries.
- Conduct routine monitoring and supportive site visits to interventionists.
Networking, Leadership and Advocacy
- Collaborate with Paralegals and Human Rights Reactors and liaise with public health facilities, DSD, and SAPS to strengthen linkages, sensitisation, and engagement.
- Mobilise AGYW to promote healthy behaviours, HIV testing, and access to services and programmes.
- Represent the programme in stakeholder meetings and community forums as required.
- Support and strengthen district Young People’s networks, including Y-Key Pops.
Programme Coordination
- Work with the Programme Manager to implement operational plans across assigned sites.
- Monitor stock levels of hygiene packs, dignity packs, and related commodities at community spaces and coordinate timely distribution.
- Identify service gaps affecting AGYW and co-develop strategies with the Programme Manager to address them.
- Conduct regular size estimations, complete micro-planning tools, and participate in research activities when required.
- Respond professionally to internal and external enquiries related to programme activities.
Reporting, Administration and Facilitation
- Verify and collect weekly and monthly reports from Peer Educators.
- Collaborate with data capturers to consolidate information and prepare accurate monthly and quarterly reports for submission to the M&E Officer and Programme Manager.
- Maintain organised programme records and complete related administrative duties.
Personal Development
- Participate in ongoing learning and development opportunities, including trainings, workshops, and information sessions.
- Stay informed on developments in HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, youth development, key populations, and human rights.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Attend required meetings, briefings, debriefings, and staff engagements.
- Carry out additional duties delegated by management as needed.
- Represent the organisation professionally and uphold its values, ethos, and principles.
- Act as a role model to strengthen positive behaviour change among interventionists.
