Dischem Vacancies is building a Cashier talent pool to identify and pre-screen suitable candidates for future opportunities within Ballito stores. This initiative ensures a ready group of skilled individuals who can deliver excellent customer service and maintain accurate and secure till operations.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Sound numerical skills
- Strong command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Dischem customer service policies and procedures
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Meet required customer turnover hourly rates
- Stay informed about current sales and promotions
- Ensure a safe environment for customers and colleagues
- Apply Dischem 5-star communication principles at all times
- Manage and control cash flow responsibly
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are authorised and signed off by a supervisor
- Process exchanges and authorised returns in line with company procedures
- Accurately transact all purchases and process payments including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Process loyalty cards and partner programmes
- Secure cash in the drop safe according to standard operating procedures
- Protect personal login codes and passwords, ensuring confidentiality and regular updates
- Ensure all outgoing items and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
- Keep all cash secure within the till and handle daily takings confidentially
- Identify and report suspicious behaviour to management
- Assist customers with queries regarding merchandise
- Comply with all security policies and procedures
Competencies

- Strong knowledge of operating cash registers and managing cash drawers
- Understanding of processing sales, refunds, and various payment methods
- Strong verbal and written English skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Professional appearance and conduct
- Emotional intelligence and social awareness
- Accountability and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyse basic reports
- Trustworthy and honest
- Effective time management
Advantageous:
- Ability to speak a third additional language
