Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for performing routine tyre maintenance, including tyre breakdowns and surveys, for the Value fleet of vehicles. The role involves driving to various sites, ensuring tyre safety, monitoring stock, and maintaining accurate records to support fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Management
- Ensure tyre stock is secured at all times
- Investigate and report stock discrepancies daily
- Assist with monthly cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
- Drive to assigned sites and prioritise vehicle tyre surveys according to the fleet list
- Conduct daily tyre surveys using Intersect tyre management software or manual documentation if offline
- Record accurate tyre information including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth
- Ensure all vehicles are surveyed monthly, including spare wheels, and report missing spares to supervisor
- Spray spare wheel rims for easy identification
- Fit and check wheel nut indicators, ensuring all wheel nuts are torqued correctly
- Take photos of scrap tyres and submit to supervisor
- Report on vehicles surveyed, tyre issues, and daily productivity to supervisor
Branding of Tyres
- Identify tyres without brand numbers and brand them according to the provided listing
- Ensure all branded tyres are accurately recorded
Tyre Replacement
- Identify and replace smooth, damaged, or punctured tyres according to SOP
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and submit daily to supervisor
Tyre Rotations
- Rotate tyres according to matching tread requirements
- Complete and submit tyre rotation slips daily to supervisor
Breakdowns
- Ensure breakdown support vehicle is loaded with the correct tyres for on-site issues
- Attend to tyre-related breakdowns promptly, prioritising urgency while complying with driving regulations
- Complete breakdown reports and tyre change slips
- Return damaged tyres to depot and hand over with documentation to supervisor
Company Equipment & Assets
- Keep tyre maintenance tablets, tools, and equipment secured when not in use
- Conduct daily vehicle checklists and submit to supervisor
- Park and secure vehicles and hand over keys to supervisor
- Report vehicle accidents, damages, and defective tools immediately
- Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists to supervisor
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and company vehicle
Health & Safety
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations, using correct PPE at all times
- Report health and safety issues or near misses to supervisor immediately
General
- Comply with company policies and procedures including SOPs, HR, POPIA, dress code, smoking, and attendance
- Assist with any other company requirements
- Weekend work may be required occasionally
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Code B driver’s license
- 1–2 years’ heavy-duty tyre experience
- Physically able to lift heavy objects
