Chemical Plant Controller – Sasol Careers

Purpose of the Role
The Chemical Plant Controller operates and monitors process equipment, systems, and operations for a specific plant or unit within Sasol to achieve production targets safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all company and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate process equipment and systems to meet production and quality targets.
• Provide timely feedback to supervisors on work progress and operational issues.
• Participate in risk assessments and implement safety measures to improve plant safety.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices and adhere to waste disposal procedures.
• Work independently while understanding business drivers and KPIs.
• Apply and maintain safety standards in all operational activities.
• Participate in shift handover meetings and ensure clear communication with team members.
• Identify personal training and development needs and incorporate them into PDPs with group leader approval.
• Coach learners and subject matter experts on-the-job.
• Conduct presentations and training on specific plant equipment.
• Perform IMS inspections to support plant sustainability and operational integrity.
• Collaborate effectively with team members and other disciplines on daily operational matters.
• Play an active role during emergency situations to restore plant operations.
• Contribute to toolbox talks to enhance safety awareness and operational excellence.

Education Requirement

• NQF 4 Chemical Operations with CPO SOR, or
• Chemical Plant Operator Occupational Qualification (CPO EISA)

Experience Requirement

• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in chemical plant operations
