Purpose of the Role
The Engineering Lead Industrial translates the Digital Development mandate into a clear industrial engineering strategy and leads the performance of the industrial engineering team. The role focuses on identifying and delivering high-value improvement opportunities through system analysis, lean methodologies, and practical business solutions, while leveraging digitalisation tools to support the digital transformation of operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate the Digital Development group mandate into an effective industrial engineering strategy
- Lead, manage, and be accountable for the performance and quality of deliverables of the industrial engineering team
- Guide the team in identifying improvement opportunities that deliver measurable business value
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of industrial engineering intelligence, insights, and services
- Review, evaluate, and approve industrial engineering analyses and proposed solutions prior to release to the business
- Apply systems thinking by considering integration and enterprise-wide impact when recommending improvements
- Act as business family leader for industrial engineering, including the development and mentoring of candidate engineers
- Support digital transformation initiatives by applying automation, data science, statistics, and other digital tools where appropriate
- Continuously develop and expand industrial engineering and digitalisation capabilities within the team
- Review Sasol policies and specifications to ensure effective implementation within the area of responsibility
- Drive initiatives that improve operational delivery, competitiveness, and efficiency
- Foster a high-performance culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement
- Develop technical and industrial engineering capability through coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
- Facilitate collaboration, innovation, and effective knowledge management across the organisation
- Ensure personal development plans and performance management processes are implemented and tracked
- Ensure safety objectives and required training are completed and embedded within the team
- Cascade goals and long-term plans through effective two-way communication
- Manage engineering knowledge by packaging, transferring, and sustaining critical expertise
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or
- BTech or Advanced Diploma combined with a Master of Engineering
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years relevant industrial or engineering leadership experience
