Artisan Gr 2 Mechanical Fitter – Sasol Careers

Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Gr 2 Mechanical Fitter is responsible for operating basic mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and executing routine maintenance activities in accordance with detailed work instructions. The role supports safe, reliable plant operation while meeting required performance, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute maintenance activities on plant mechanical equipment in line with approved procedures
• Perform maintenance and repair work on pipeline mechanical equipment
• Apply lubricating system principles to ensure optimal equipment performance
• Inspect, maintain, and work on relief valves
• Scope and execute small mechanical projects effectively
• Operate mobile and truck-mounted cranes in compliance with safety requirements
• Perform and support statutory inspections as required
• Apply basic practical knowledge of Risk-Based Inspections
• Comply with the Management of Change process for plant and equipment modifications
• Conduct SHE IMS inspections in line with SHERQ requirements
• Apply and adhere to root cause analysis procedures
• Demonstrate practical understanding of hazardous area classifications
• Apply quality assurance and quality control practices during maintenance execution
• Ensure compliance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations of the OHS Act
• Fully comply with task risk assessments, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
• Adhere to the Work Management System at all times

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science, and English
• NQF Level 4 Mechanical Fitter Trade Test Certificate

Additional Advantageous Qualifications

• N4 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering

Licensing Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License Code 08
• Driver’s License Code 14 will be advantageous

Experience and Knowledge Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a qualified mechanical artisan
• Proven experience using SAP systems
• Computer literacy with the ability to work on maintenance systems
• Sound knowledge of process plant environments
• Pipeline maintenance experience will be advantageous
• Working knowledge of Sasol permit and risk systems
