About the Program
Truworths is seeking an experienced Payroll Accounting Manager to oversee the end-to-end payroll accounting function within the Employee Benefits Department, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across multiple regions, including South Africa, other African countries, and the UK. This role is ideal for a deadline-driven professional with strong analytical skills, accounting expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll processes, including general ledger oversight, verification of payroll data input and output, and accurate, timely payment of employees.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, including employee tax, benefits, payroll earnings, and deductions.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare reports for management and statutory bodies.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Collaborate with the Employee Benefits Department to maintain accurate employee data and payroll records.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll and benefits.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the financial impact of share incentive schemes, including reconciliations of share gains, dividends, and related transactions.
  • Assist with other accounting and finance functions as required.
  • Manage departmental budgets and forecasting for South Africa and other African countries.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the payroll team to ensure high performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years in payroll accounting and 2 years in a team leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, accounting principles, and payroll regulations.
  • In-depth understanding of South African payroll and tax laws; knowledge of the Employee Tax Incentive (ETI) advantageous.
  • Experience reconciling and submitting employee tax and preparing annual tax certificates.
  • Proficient in payroll software (Oracle preferred) and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience preparing detailed reports and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
