Job Overview
Truworths Careers is seeking an experienced Senior Credit Risk Analyst to join the Risk and Analytics department at Head Office in Cape Town. This strategic role focuses on transforming large volumes of data into actionable insights and customer strategies that drive profitability while operating within defined risk constraints. The successful candidate will contribute at a senior level, supporting business performance through advanced analytics, reporting, and the implementation of data-driven credit risk strategies.
Role Purpose
As a Senior Credit Risk Analyst, you will play a critical role in managing and optimising the credit portfolio by developing, implementing, and monitoring credit risk strategies. You will provide analytical leadership, support strategic decision-making, and ensure alignment with organisational objectives and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the achievement of a balanced and sustainable credit portfolio through accurate forecasting
• Design, develop, and implement champion/challenger credit and customer strategies aligned with Board expectations
• Monitor portfolio performance against predefined KPIs and proactively recommend strategy enhancements
• Investigate data integrity issues, validate assumptions, and ensure analytical accuracy
• Assess the impact of strategy changes across application and account management processes
• Present analytical findings, insights, and recommendations to senior stakeholders through reports and presentations
• Forecast and monitor strategy performance using advanced statistical techniques
• Project manage the implementation of approved strategy changes into live systems
• Perform coding activities within a retail credit environment
• Apply strong credit expertise, including IFRS 9, credit strategy rules, and risk registers
Qualifications and Experience
• Relevant postgraduate qualification with a strong mathematical or statistical focus
• Business Science, BCom, or equivalent qualification
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in consumer credit within a credit risk analytics environment
• Proven track record of delivering and implementing analytical solutions that drive measurable business outcomes
Key Competencies
• In-depth understanding of the end-to-end credit lifecycle
• Experience with revolving store card or credit card portfolios is advantageous
• Strong ability to perform under pressure in both structured and unstructured environments
• Predictive analytics expertise supported by a highly numerate background
• Capability to monitor models and report performance to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders
• Commitment to team development through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing
• Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
• High levels of integrity and confidentiality
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Strong experience in SAS (Base, Enterprise Guide, or SAS Viya) is highly advantageous
• Experience with SAS SQL and SAS Python is beneficial
